Former MasterChef contestant Mindy Woods took her pop -up tour of artisan producers to Melbourne last weekend. Held at
Brasserie Bread in South Melbourne, the pop up event showcased sustainable seafood, cultured butter, artisan bread and local beer and wine.
To start, a table bursting with
sourdough bread,
Pepe Saya butter, meats and Yarra Valley caviar gets the taste-buds going. Then come an array of seafood canapes: mussel veloutés; sesame leaves with smoked trout fragrant Asian herbs, nuoc cham and puffed rice; sesame leaves with coconut and tamarind relish seared prawns; and cured trout with blood orange dressing served en croutes.
And then the main event: the Malaysian seafood curry cooked in two enormous pans, with the aromas of beautiful herbs and spices wafting through the room all evening. Brimming with
Kinkawooka mussels, clams and prawns, the spicy curry is absolutely incredible when mopped up with chunks of bread.
Last but not least, we’re served boards of mini brioche buttermilk ice cream sandwiches with beer caramel made with Pepe’s creme fraice and Two Birds Brewing’s Sunset Ale. Brewing and bottling at Southern Bay in Geelong,
Two Birds Brewing is hand-crafted beer by brewer Jayne. We happily mingle and eat to the soothing tunes of local artist Alexis Nicole, enjoying wonderful beers from Two Birds Brewing and fantastic wines by Fowles Wine.
Fowles Wine is a family owned vineyard and winery in the spectacular granite landscape of the Strathbogie Ranges wine region in Victoria. Using old world wine making techniques and today’s technology, Fowles Wine produce elegant and exciting wines.
Thank you to Mindy and all producers for joining us on this fantastic evening at our South Melbourne cafe.
